To ensure it remains truly portable and leaves no digital footprint on the host computer, you must instruct the software to save configuration settings locally onto your portable drive.
Download the archive: Instead of an installer, download the .zip (Windows) or .tar.gz (Linux) archive.
Extract to your drive: Place the files directly onto your USB stick.
Use the config switch: Launch the application using the -config command-line argument followed by a folder path on your USB. This forces QCAD to write preferences to the thumb drive instead of the host PC’s registry or local application folders.
For example, on a Windows device assigned to drive letter F:, you would launch it via a batch file or command line using: F:\QCAD\qcad.exe -config F:\config.
